About CORKCICLE.
Overview
CORKCICLE. is an American consumer-products and lifestyle brand best known for its insulated drinkware, hydration products, barware, coolers, and related accessories. Founded in 2010 in Orlando, Florida, the company initially centred on a single product: an insulated, reusable device designed to chill wine from inside the bottle.[1] Since then, CORKCICLE. has expanded from wine accessories into a broader lifestyle brand focused on beverage consumption, hydration, entertaining, travel, and everyday carry.[1]
The brand distinguishes itself through a combination of functional product engineering and fashion-oriented design, positioning reusable drinkware not merely as utility items but as lifestyle and personal-style accessories.[1] CORKCICLE. describes its philosophy as being focused on design details, innovative products, and reducing reliance on single-use containers.[1]

History
Founding
The story of CORKCICLE. began in 2010 when Orlando entrepreneur Ben Hewitt sought a better way to keep wine chilled without using a conventional ice bucket.[3] Hewitt experimented with a rudimentary prototype made from a plastic tube, freezer-pack material, and a cork. The prototype was placed inside a wine bottle and demonstrated that wine could be chilled from the inside.[3]
Hewitt subsequently brought the concept to his friends and business partners Stephen Bruner and Eric Miller. Bruner contributed to the product’s branding and marketing, including the name Corkcicle, a combination of “cork” and “icicle.” Miller brought sales and distribution experience to the venture. Historical industry sources identify Hewitt, Bruner, and Miller as the founders behind the original CORKCICLE. concept.[3]
The first commercial product was essentially an icicle-shaped wine chiller that could be inserted into an opened wine bottle. Rather than cooling the bottle externally in an ice bucket, it cooled the wine internally while also allowing the wine to be poured through the device.
Early commercialization
In 2011, the founders presented the product to ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, an Orlando-based retailer. The retailer placed an order, providing an early indication that the product had commercial potential.[4]
The product subsequently attracted attention in the specialty-gift and wine-accessory markets. Its exposure through personalities and media outlets—including Oprah’s Favorite Things and Martha Stewart—helped accelerate awareness of the young brand.[5]
CORKCICLE.’s early success demonstrated an important aspect of its eventual business model: taking a familiar everyday activity—in this case, drinking wine—and attempting to make the associated product more convenient, visually distinctive, and giftable.
Expansion Beyond Wine
Rather than remaining solely a wine-accessory company, CORKCICLE. began developing products for a wider range of beverages and occasions.
Among its early extensions were products such as:
- Chillsner — designed to chill bottled beer.
- Arctican — designed to keep canned beverages cold.
- Whiskey Wedge — a barware product designed to chill spirits while limiting dilution.
- Canteen — an insulated reusable bottle that helped move the company into the broader hydration market.[3]
The introduction of insulated bottles and tumblers was particularly significant. CORKCICLE. moved from being primarily a wine-accessory company toward becoming a broader hydration and lifestyle brand.
By the mid-2010s, the company’s product portfolio included insulated drinkware designed for wine, water, coffee, and other beverages. Contemporary reporting described the company’s design approach as a major differentiator, with products intended to function as both practical objects and expressions of personal style.[6]
The CORKCICLE. Product Philosophy
CORKCICLE.’s product strategy can broadly be understood through three themes:
1. Insulation and performance
The company uses double- or triple-wall insulated constructions across many of its drinkware products. The objective is to maintain beverage temperature for extended periods while providing a reusable alternative to disposable beverage containers.
Its current product portfolio includes canteens, tumblers, coffee cups, commuter cups, and other insulated vessels.[2]
2. Design
Design is arguably the most recognizable characteristic of the CORKCICLE. brand.
Rather than treating drinkware as a purely utilitarian category, the company emphasizes:
- distinctive shapes;
- bright and seasonal colors;
- patterns and prints;
- textured finishes;
- collaborations;
- personalization;
- fashion-oriented collections; and
- gift-oriented packaging.
CORKCICLE. itself describes the company as being particularly focused on “design details” and says that it has become an industry leader in color and style.[2]
This design-led approach has allowed the brand to compete not only with conventional beverage-container manufacturers but also within the broader lifestyle and gift market.
3. Reusability
Sustainability is another component of CORKCICLE.’s brand positioning.
The company promotes reusable drinkware as an alternative to single-use beverage containers and describes its products as inherently sustainable. Its stated philosophy connects product design with reducing the environmental impact associated with disposable consumption.[2]
Importantly, CORKCICLE.’s sustainability proposition is primarily tied to reusability and product longevity, rather than positioning itself exclusively as an environmental brand.
Major Product Categories
Today, CORKCICLE.’s portfolio is considerably broader than its original wine chiller.
Drinkware
Drinkware is the company’s most recognizable category. It includes:
- insulated canteens;
- tumblers;
- cold cups;
- commuter cups;
- coffee mugs;
- stemless wine cups;
- travel-oriented vessels; and
- sports/hydration products.
The company’s current website identifies products such as the Cruiser, Cold Cup, Cold Cup XL, Go Cup XL, Series A Sport Canteen, and Leakproof Cruiser among its offerings.[2]
Barware
CORKCICLE. retains a connection to its original wine-and-bar heritage through products designed for wine, cocktails, and spirits.
The company’s early portfolio included the original wine chiller, Whiskey Wedge, and other beverage-related accessories.[3]
Coolers
The brand subsequently expanded into insulated soft coolers and products intended for transporting beverages and food.
This represented another step in the company’s evolution from a single-purpose wine accessory into an everyday lifestyle/outdoor brand.
Lunch and Everyday Carry
CORKCICLE. has also developed products associated with food storage, lunch, and carrying beverages, broadening its target consumer beyond people purchasing drinkware specifically.
Accessories
The company also sells complementary accessories, including items associated with carrying and using its drinkware.
Signature Design Features
One of the reasons CORKCICLE. products are recognizable is the company’s attention to small functional details.
Its current products feature elements such as:
- Non-Slip Silicone Bases, intended to reduce sliding and noise;
- Spill-Proof 360° Sip Lids on selected products;
- Ceramic interiors on selected vessels, marketed as helping preserve the taste of coffee and wine; and
- cup-holder-compatible designs on certain products.[2]
The company also maintains an intellectual-property portfolio covering various designs, including patents and registered designs associated with products such as the Original Corkcicle, CORKCICLE Air, Flute, and Tumbler.[2]
Brand Identity
CORKCICLE.’s identity sits at the intersection of drinkware, fashion, gifting, and lifestyle.
Traditional insulated drinkware companies generally emphasize technical performance: temperature retention, durability, and capacity. CORKCICLE. adds another dimension—aesthetic desirability.
Its products are therefore designed to answer two questions simultaneously:
“Does this keep my drink at the desired temperature?”
and
“Does this look good enough to be part of my personal style?”
That combination has been central to the company’s growth.
An earlier description from the International Housewares Association characterized the company’s evolution as moving from the original wine chiller into products designed for keeping drinks “cold, hot, stored, carried and shared.”[5]
Collaborations
Collaborations have become an important part of CORKCICLE.’s brand-building strategy.
The company has worked with recognizable entertainment, lifestyle, and design brands to create limited-edition and co-branded products. One notable example is Disney, with CORKCICLE. having described itself as the official premium drinkware partner of Walt Disney World Resort for certain programs.[2]
The company has also been associated with collaborations involving brands such as Rifle Paper Co., among others.[7]
These partnerships serve two purposes: they provide consumers with collectible designs while also allowing CORKCICLE. to reach audiences beyond the conventional drinkware market.
Retail and Distribution
CORKCICLE. has historically used a combination of direct-to-consumer e-commerce, specialty retailers, department stores, lifestyle retailers, and other distribution channels.
Earlier in its development, the company expanded rapidly through specialty and independent retail. By the 2020s, its products were being distributed through thousands of retail locations in addition to its own online business. A company case study published by Oracle NetSuite described approximately 4,000 retail partner locations at the time, including retailers such as Williams Sonoma, Macy’s, Anthropologie, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdale’s.[8]
CORKCICLE. continues to operate its own e-commerce storefront, where it sells its current product range directly to consumers.[2]
Orlando Connection
Although CORKCICLE. has developed an international consumer presence, Orlando, Florida remains an important part of its identity.
The company was founded there and historically maintained its headquarters and a significant portion of its team in the Orlando area. In 2023, CORKCICLE. executives described the company as having started as a local “side hustle” before growing into an international drinkware business.[7]
The company’s Orlando roots have consequently become part of its corporate story and brand personality.
Corporate Structure
CORKCICLE. is a private consumer-products business operating within the broader corporate ecosystem of Helen of Troy Limited, a publicly traded global consumer-products company.
Helen of Troy’s portfolio spans home, outdoor, beauty, and wellness brands. Its Home & Outdoor segment includes brands such as OXO, Hydro Flask, and Osprey.[1]
One important clarification is that CORKCICLE. should not be confused with Helen of Troy’s other drinkware brand, Hydro Flask. Both operate in overlapping hydration markets, but they are distinct brands with different histories and identities.
Competitive Positioning
CORKCICLE. operates in a highly competitive market that includes companies such as:
- Hydro Flask
- YETI
- Stanley
- S’well
- Owala
- BrüMate
- Contigo
- Simple Modern
Its differentiation is less about being the most technically rugged container and more about combining insulation, design, fashion, gifting, and collaborations.
This is particularly visible in the company’s use of colors, patterns, licensed collections, and designer collaborations. CORKCICLE. effectively treats a bottle or tumbler as a lifestyle accessory, rather than merely a piece of hydration equipment.
Sustainability
CORKCICLE. incorporates sustainability into its brand narrative primarily through reusable products.
The basic proposition is straightforward: a reusable insulated bottle, tumbler, or cup can replace repeated purchases of disposable beverage containers. The company explicitly describes its products as inherently sustainable and connects its mission with reducing single-use consumption.[2]
However, it is useful to distinguish “reusable” from “zero environmental impact.” Manufacturing stainless-steel drinkware still requires energy and raw materials. The environmental benefit of a reusable product depends in part on how frequently and how long it is used.
Marketing and Brand Recognition
CORKCICLE. has historically benefited from a combination of:
- product-driven word of mouth;
- celebrity and media exposure;
- gift-market placement;
- distinctive packaging;
- retail distribution;
- social-media marketing;
- brand collaborations; and
- limited-edition designs.
Its early appearance through Oprah’s Favorite Things was particularly important because it helped establish the original product as a desirable gift item rather than simply a technical wine accessory.[9]
The company has continued this approach through collaborations and visually distinctive collections.
Why CORKCICLE. Became Significant
CORKCICLE.’s importance within the drinkware market comes from its role in helping shift consumer perception of insulated beverage containers.
Historically, drinkware was largely categorized according to function:
bottle → cup → mug → wine accessory
CORKCICLE. helped push the category toward:
drinkware → lifestyle product → fashion accessory → collectible/gift item
Its original innovation was relatively simple: put the cooling mechanism inside the wine bottle rather than around it.
Its larger business innovation was recognizing that consumers might be willing to pay a premium for an everyday object when function, aesthetics, and identity are combined.
That philosophy subsequently became visible across its bottles, tumblers, coolers, and other products.
