History
Electrolux traces its roots to the early 20th century. The company was formed in 1919 through the merger of Lux AB, a manufacturer of kerosene lamps, and Svenska Elektron AB, a company specializing in vacuum cleaners. The merger was driven by entrepreneur Axel Wenner-Gren, who believed lightweight vacuum cleaners could become a household necessity.
The company’s first major success came with the Model V vacuum cleaner, which featured runners instead of wheels, making it easier to move around homes. During the 1920s and 1930s, Electrolux expanded internationally through an innovative direct-sales model.
Over the following decades, Electrolux broadened its product range from vacuum cleaners into refrigerators, washing machines, ovens, dishwashers, air conditioners, and many other home appliances. Growth was accelerated through acquisitions of well-known appliance brands around the world. [1]
