About FRUDIA
FRUDIA is a South Korean skincare and beauty brand owned by WELCOS Co., Ltd. The label is distinguished by its fruit-derived skincare concept, which integrates fruit extracts and antioxidants with Korean cosmetic formulation technology. FRUDIA’s identity centres on delivering the nutritional and antioxidant properties of fruits through topical skincare products.[2]
Launched in 2016 by WELCOS, the brand leveraged the manufacturer’s decades of experience in fruit-based cosmetics gained through its earlier Kwailnara line. FRUDIA was initially positioned as a “fruit therapy” skincare brand, with collections organised around specific fruits such as blueberry, green grape, tangerine, and pomegranate.[2]
The brand has since expanded beyond its original fruit-focused moisturisers into a broader K-beauty portfolio encompassing skincare, sun care, lip and cheek makeup, cleansing, and other beauty categories. Its current range incorporates ingredients and concepts including retinal, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and proprietary technologies such as EXO RED™ and F-LAB.[1]

History
Origins
FRUDIA’s origins are intrinsically linked to WELCOS, a Korean cosmetics manufacturer with extensive experience in fruit-based beauty products. Prior to establishing FRUDIA, WELCOS developed its expertise in fruit ingredients through its Kwailnara cosmetics business.
According to WELCOS, the company accumulated approximately 30 years of research and experience with fruits before applying this knowledge to the creation of FRUDIA.[2]
The concept for the brand reportedly emerged after members of the WELCOS research team visited France. Upon observing the skin condition of workers handling fresh fruit in an Alsace jam-making facility, the team became interested in the antioxidant properties of fruits. This observation contributed significantly to the foundational concept that eventually became FRUDIA.[2]
2016: Launch
FRUDIA was officially launched in 2016 as a distinct fruit-based skincare brand. WELCOS described the concept as “Fruit Therapy Skin Care”, aiming to utilise fruit-derived nutrients and antioxidant compounds in cosmetic formulations.[2]
The initial launch featured four primary skincare lines:
- Blueberry — hydration and moisturising
- Tangerine — brightening and vitamin-focused care
- Green grape — pore and sebum care
- Pomegranate — moisturising and elasticity care
A signature product from this era was the Blueberry Hydrating Cream, which WELCOS stated contained a high concentration of blueberry extract and had undergone human-use testing for moisturisation efficacy.[2]
FRUDIA also garnered early international attention. WELCOS reported that the brand prepared for market entry in Singapore in 2017 and subsequently promoted the line at various international cosmetics exhibitions.[2]
Name and Brand Concept
The name FRUDIA is a portmanteau of “fruit” and “dia,” a term described by the brand as Greek-derived meaning “by” or “of.”[1]
The brand’s fundamental philosophy posits that fruits contain naturally occurring nutrients and antioxidants beneficial for maintaining healthy-looking skin. Consequently, FRUDIA’s early identity was strongly anchored in the progression: Fruit → antioxidants → skin nourishment → healthier-looking skin.
Rather than incorporating minimal amounts of fruit extract as a supplementary ingredient, FRUDIA differentiated itself by emphasising fruit-derived water or juice and extraction technology as central components of its formulations.[2]
R-VITA-W™ Technology
A key technology associated with FRUDIA is R-VITA-W™, also referred to in some brand materials as R-VITA-WDS™. This process involves low-temperature extraction designed to preserve fruit-derived nutrients and antioxidant components during manufacturing. FRUDIA describes the method as a 100% low-temperature extraction technique.[1]
This technology was integral to the brand’s original product philosophy, distinguishing its formulations from conventional cosmetics that merely add isolated fruit extracts. At launch, WELCOS stated that FRUDIA utilised fruit juice extracted via the R-VITA-W™ process to retain the nutritional characteristics of the fruit throughout production.[2]
Product Philosophy
FRUDIA’s original approach is broadly defined as fruit-derived skincare. The company focused on naturally recognisable ingredients such as berries, grapes, citrus fruits, and pomegranates, combining them with conventional cosmetic actives and formulation technologies.
While the brand originally emphasised fruit juice and antioxidants, its philosophy has evolved to incorporate a wider selection of modern skincare ingredients. The current FRUDIA website highlights concepts including:[1]
- Fruit-ceutical™
- F-LAB™
- EXO RED™
- 360° Lifting™
- 3D Radiance™
- Retinal
- Niacinamide
- Volufiline
- K-beauty
- Vegan products
These elements reflect the brand’s evolution from a narrowly fruit-focused skincare company toward a broader modern K-beauty label.[1]
Major Product Lines
Blueberry
The Blueberry line remains one of FRUDIA’s most recognisable product families, primarily positioned for hydration and moisturising. Utilising blueberry-derived ingredients, the line has historically included creams, serums, toners, masks, and lip-care products. The original Blueberry Hydrating Cream was particularly significant to the brand’s early identity.[2]
Recent developments in this line include the Hydra Recharge Blueberry Hyaluronic Toner and Blueberry Hydrating Air Fit Sunscreen.[1]
Green Grape
The Green Grape range focuses on sebum control, pore care, and refreshing skincare. Green grape was selected for its association with tannins and antioxidant compounds, which were incorporated into the brand’s original pore-care concept.[2]
The current portfolio includes formats such as the Green Grape Sebum Control Cooling Sun Stick, demonstrating the adaptation of the original ingredient concept into newer product types.[1]
Tangerine / Citrus
Originally associated with brightening and vitamin C, the Tangerine concept has evolved into the broader Citrus Brightening identity. Current products include:
- Citrus Brightening Toning Pad
- Citrus Brightening Vitamin C Ampoule
These items address concerns related to blemishes, pigmentation, and overall skin brightness.[1]
Pomegranate
Pomegranate served as another major original line, positioned around moisturising and elasticity. Pomegranate polyphenols functioned as a key antioxidant component in these formulations.[2]
Lip Care
FRUDIA expanded beyond facial skincare relatively early in its history. In 2017, WELCOS introduced a range of FRUDIA fruit lip balms, combining fruit juice with ingredients such as honey, royal jelly, and propolis.[2]
The Blueberry Hydrating Honey Lip Balm subsequently became one of the brand’s most identifiable products. Its distinctive honey-jar-inspired packaging attracted attention both domestically and internationally. WELCOS reported that the product expanded into more than 600 Olive Young stores in Korea in 2018.[2]
Sun Care
Sun protection has become an increasingly prominent category within FRUDIA’s portfolio. The current range includes:[1]
- Blueberry Hydrating Air Fit Sunscreen
- Green Grape Sebum Control Cooling Sun Stick
- Re:proust UV Defense Leports Sun
- Bare Skin Foundation Free Sun
This assortment illustrates the brand’s transition from traditional fruit-based moisturisers toward specialised contemporary K-beauty sun protection products.[1]
Makeup Expansion
Although historically concentrated on skincare, FRUDIA has begun expanding into colour cosmetics. In 2025, WELCOS announced the introduction of Glow Juicy Jam Lip & Cheek, marking the brand’s entry into the makeup category. Developed with fruit-inspired shades, the product was released in eight colours.[2]
This development signifies a shift in brand identity from fruit-based skincare to a broader fruit-inspired beauty brand. The official website currently features both Blurry Butter Jam and Glow Juicy Jam lip-and-cheek products.[1]
International Expansion
FRUDIA pursued international distribution shortly after its launch. By 2018, WELCOS reported expansion into markets including Singapore, Malaysia, the United States, China, Japan, various European countries, Russia, Ukraine, and Mexico. The company positioned FRUDIA as an emerging international K-beauty brand.[2]
The brand continues to pursue overseas growth through international beauty exhibitions. In 2025, WELCOS reported that FRUDIA participated in Cosmoprof CBE ASEAN Bangkok, engaging with over 100 existing and potential buyers and distributors.[2]
Global distribution channels currently include retailers and platforms serving Korea, Southeast Asia, Europe, Japan, North America, Australia, and other markets.[3]
FRUDIA and K-Beauty
FRUDIA operates within the broader K-beauty industry but established an identity distinct from stereotypical Korean skincare tropes. While many K-beauty brands focus on ingredients like snail mucin, Centella asiatica, fermented extracts, rice, ginseng, or green tea, FRUDIA carved out a niche around fruit-derived ingredients, particularly berries and citrus.
This focus resulted in a distinctive visual and conceptual identity characterised by colourful fruit imagery and packaging. However, the current portfolio aligns more closely with mainstream modern K-beauty, incorporating active ingredients such as retinal, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid alongside its fruit-based heritage.[1]
Brand Positioning
FRUDIA encompasses several overlapping identities:
1. Fruit-based skincare brand
This remains the brand’s original and most recognisable identity.
2. Korean beauty brand
FRUDIA is a South Korean cosmetics brand marketed internationally within the K-beauty category.
3. Antioxidant-focused skincare
Antioxidants derived from fruits have been central to the brand’s formulation philosophy since inception.
4. Accessible beauty
Historically, FRUDIA has positioned many products in the affordable-to-mid-range segment rather than as luxury skincare.
5. Ingredient-driven modern skincare
The newer portfolio combines fruit heritage with contemporary skincare actives and technologies.
Sustainability and Vegan Positioning
The official FRUDIA website includes a dedicated Vegan Product category and prominently uses terms such as “Vegan,” “Clean Beauty,” and “Cruelty Free” in its presentation.[1]
It is important to distinguish between the brand offering vegan products and the claim that every FRUDIA product is vegan. The accurate description is that FRUDIA maintains a specific vegan product range, rather than classifying its entire historical portfolio as vegan.
Corporate Structure
FRUDIA is operated by WELCOS Co., Ltd. The official website identifies the legal corporate entity as 후르디아 ((주)웰코스) and lists Kim Young-don as the representative. Business addresses are located in Chuncheon and Seoul.[1]
FRUDIA is not an independent company separate from WELCOS; it is a brand developed and operated within WELCOS’s cosmetics business.
Brand Evolution
FRUDIA’s development can be categorised into three stages:
2016–2018: Fruit skincare identity
The early brand concentrated on fruit juice, antioxidants, and four major fruit lines (Blueberry, Tangerine, Green Grape, Pomegranate). Differentiation relied on fruit-derived ingredients and low-temperature extraction technology.[2]
2018–2023: International K-beauty expansion
FRUDIA expanded its skincare portfolio and pursued overseas distribution through beauty retailers and exhibitions. Products like the Blueberry Honey Lip Balm facilitated consumer recognition beyond Korea.[1][2]
2024–present: Modernised beauty brand
The brand has increasingly incorporated modern skincare technologies and active ingredients while retaining its fruit heritage. The current portfolio includes retinal, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, advanced sun care, and new makeup categories.[1]
