About Macbeth
Macbeth (commonly known as Macbeth Footwear) is an American-inspired lifestyle and streetwear brand specializing in footwear, apparel, and accessories. Founded in 2002 in Southern California, the brand became known for blending music, skate, punk rock, and street culture into minimalist fashion. It was co-founded by Tom DeLonge, the guitarist and vocalist of the rock bands Blink-182 and Angels & Airwaves. Today, Macbeth has a particularly strong presence in Southeast Asia, especially in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia. [1]
History
Macbeth Footwear was established in 2002 by Tom DeLonge with the goal of creating a footwear brand inspired by the Southern California music scene. Rather than focusing on performance athletics, Macbeth emphasized everyday lifestyle footwear with clean silhouettes, durable construction, and a strong connection to alternative music culture. The company later expanded into clothing and accessories, becoming a full lifestyle brand. [2]
The name “Macbeth” was inspired by the Shakespearean play, reflecting themes of creativity, individuality, and artistic expression. According to the brand, the name was chosen because of the play’s dark, honest, and uncompromising artistic nature. [3]
Design Philosophy
Macbeth’s products are characterized by:
-
Minimalist and timeless designs
-

Many early Macbeth shoes were also marketed as vegan-friendly, using canvas and synthetic materials instead of leather whenever possible. Environmental awareness became an important part of the brand’s identity. [4]

Music Culture
One of Macbeth’s defining characteristics is its close relationship with music. Since its founding, the brand has collaborated with musicians, artists, and bands to create limited-edition products through its Studio Projects, allowing artists to express their personalities through custom footwear and apparel. This connection to music continues to be one of the company’s core identities. [6]
Ownership and Expansion
In 2014, Macbeth Footwear was acquired by Saban Brands, marking a significant shift in the company’s direction. Following the acquisition, Macbeth expanded its licensing and distribution efforts, with much of its growth occurring in Southeast Asia. While the brand originated in California, it has become especially popular in countries such as the Philippines, where it operates numerous retail stores and offers an extensive apparel collection. [7]
Logo
The Macbeth logo features a stylized “M” pennant, resembling a flag with a pointed “V” shape. Earlier versions of the brand also incorporated symbols such as:
-
The Royal Lion
-
The Macbeth Gryphon
-
Medieval-inspired insignias
A special Vegan Pennant logo was introduced to identify products made without animal-derived materials. [8]
Brand Identity
Macbeth is associated with:
-
Alternative rock
-
Punk culture
-
Skateboarding
-
Street fashion
-
Creative individuality
-
Sustainable and vegan-inspired product design
Rather than competing directly with performance athletic brands, Macbeth positions itself as a lifestyle brand rooted in music and creative culture. [9]

Today, Macbeth products are sold through its global online store and regional distributors. The brand enjoys particularly strong recognition in Southeast Asia, where it offers a wider selection of footwear and apparel than in many Western markets. [10]
