History
Pledge was launched by SC Johnson in 1958 after extensive consumer testing of a new furniture polish developed by SC Johnson chemist Erland Muoio. During product testing, consumers reported exceptionally positive results and discovered that the polish worked effectively on more than just wood furniture, including metal and plastic surfaces while also helping remove dust.
Unlike many traditional furniture waxes available at the time, Pledge combined dust removal and polishing into a single spray product, making furniture maintenance faster and easier. The product was developed in the famous SC Johnson Research Tower, designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright. [2]
