About Mega Sardines
Mega Sardines is a Philippine brand of canned sardines owned by Mega Prime Foods Inc.. It is one of the country’s best-known canned seafood brands and has consistently been recognized as the leading sardines brand in the Philippines. The brand is known for its signature “12-Hour Catching-to-Canning” process, which emphasizes freshness by processing sardines within 12 hours of being caught. [1]
History
Mega Sardines traces its roots to the fishing business established by entrepreneur William Tiu Lim. The company’s origins date back to 1975, when Wilmar Fishing began operating in the Bicol region. In 1995, the company relocated its fishing operations to Zamboanga and became Mega Fishing Corporation, supplying fresh fish to canneries across the Philippines. [2]
In 2000, the company entered the canned sardines market with the launch of Mega Sardines. The brand differentiated itself by introducing its “freshest sardines in a can” positioning, built around a rapid catch-to-can production process. [3]
