History
MILO was invented in 1934 by Australian industrial chemist Thomas Mayne. During the Great Depression, many children suffered from poor nutrition. Nestlé commissioned Mayne to create a nutritious drink that would provide energy, vitamins, and minerals while appealing to children’s taste. The product was first launched at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in Australia and quickly gained popularity. It was named after Milon (Milo) of Croton, the legendary ancient Greek wrestler famous for his extraordinary strength. [3]
As Nestlé expanded internationally, MILO became especially successful throughout Southeast Asia, Africa, and Oceania. Over time, different countries developed their own unique recipes and serving styles to match local tastes. [4]
