History
Foundation and early growth (1975–1989)
SAMJIN was established in December 1975 as SAMJIN Plastics Industry in Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea. The company initially focused on plastic processing and electronic-related manufacturing capabilities. In 1976, it began business cooperation with Samsung Electronics, marking the start of a long manufacturing partnership.[1]
During the 1980s, SAMJIN expanded its production capabilities by establishing post-processing production lines, building mould manufacturing capabilities, entering remote-controller assembly, and improving quality-control systems. The corporate name was changed to SAMJIN Co., Ltd. in 1989.[1]
Expansion into electronics manufacturing (1990s)
The 1990s represented a major transformation period for SAMJIN. Key developments included selection as an excellent partner company by Samsung Electronics, the establishment of an R&D centre in 1995, the founding of Qingdao SAMJIN in China to expand overseas manufacturing, and listing on the KOSDAQ market in 1997.[1] This era shifted SAMJIN from a component supplier into a more integrated electronics manufacturer with engineering and global production capabilities.
Globalisation and manufacturing expansion (2000s)
During the 2000s, SAMJIN strengthened its global manufacturing network and production technology. Major milestones included supplying air purifiers to Tiger Corporation, introducing ERP and supply-chain management systems, expanding assembly capacity in Korea and China, acquiring Samsung ECO Partner status while implementing RoHS environmental standards, and starting COB (Chip on Board) production processes.[1] The company increasingly focused on high-volume electronics production and quality-controlled manufacturing during this decade.
Transition toward smart devices and IoT (2010s)
In the 2010s, SAMJIN moved beyond traditional electronics assembly to enter connected-device technologies. Developments included the establishment of PT. SAMJIN in Indonesia, production of Samsung-related modules and electronic solutions, development and manufacturing of Samsung ARTIK modules, supply of IoT hubs and sensors for SmartThings-related products, development of Bluetooth voice-recognition remote controllers, and production of Wi-Fi modules for Samsung digital appliances.[1] These activities positioned SAMJIN as a participant in the growth of smart-home and IoT ecosystems.
Recent development: smart-home and AIoT focus (2020s)
In the 2020s, SAMJIN has continued expanding into connected living solutions and AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things). Recent activities include the production of IoT modules for Samsung TVs, production of sound bars for Samsung Electronics, development of SmartThings-related devices, and expansion of overseas production networks including Thailand.[1] The company describes its mission as connecting people and things through technology and improving living environments through electronics innovation.[1]
Business areas
IoT and smart-home solutions
SAMJIN develops and manufactures connected-device technologies including IoT hubs, smart sensors, wireless communication modules, smart-home components, and AIoT devices. The company has participated in Samsung SmartThings-related supply chains and connected-device projects.[1]
Remote controllers and electronic modules
Remote-control technology remains one of SAMJIN’s historical strengths. Products and capabilities include TV remote controllers, Bluetooth remote controllers, voice-recognition remote controllers, and wireless control modules. The company began remote-controller assembly in the 1980s and has continued developing related technologies.[1]
Electronics manufacturing services (EMS/ODM)
SAMJIN provides integrated manufacturing capabilities covering product design support, hardware development, software development, mechanical engineering, SMT (surface-mount technology), injection moulding, assembly, quality testing, and global shipment management.[1]
Audio and consumer electronics components
The company has expanded into audio-related manufacturing, including sound-bar production for Samsung Electronics.[1]
Global operations
SAMJIN operates a global production and development network connecting South Korea with overseas facilities. Major locations include South Korea for headquarters and R&D operations, China for manufacturing operations, Indonesia as a production subsidiary, and Thailand as an overseas expansion base.[1]
Relationship with Samsung Electronics
Samsung Electronics has been one of SAMJIN’s most important business partners since the company’s early years. The relationship began in 1976 and expanded into multiple product categories including remote controls, TV-related components, IoT modules, sensors, wireless communication solutions, and audio products.[1] SAMJIN has received recognition as a Samsung partner and has participated in Samsung-related manufacturing programmes over several decades.[1]
Technology capabilities
SAMJIN’s technology portfolio includes electronics circuit design, embedded software, wireless communication technology, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi modules, IoT platforms, mechanical design, injection moulding, automated manufacturing, and reliability testing.[1]
Corporate position
SAMJIN is a manufacturing-focused technology company rather than a consumer-facing electronics brand. Unlike companies that sell products directly under a widely recognised retail name, SAMJIN primarily operates as a behind-the-scenes developer and manufacturer for larger electronics ecosystems.[1] Its competitive advantages include decades of electronics manufacturing experience, strong OEM/ODM capabilities, long-term Samsung supply-chain relationships, integrated engineering and production systems, and experience transitioning from hardware components to IoT solutions.
Summary
SAMJIN is a South Korean electronics manufacturer founded in 1975 that evolved from plastic and component manufacturing into a global electronics and IoT solutions company. Over nearly five decades, it has built expertise in remote controllers, electronic modules, smart-home devices, and connected technologies. Through its manufacturing partnerships, especially with Samsung Electronics, SAMJIN has become an important behind-the-scenes technology supplier in consumer electronics and smart-device markets.[1]
