Foundation
topcon was originally established as Tokyo Optical Co., Ltd. (Tokyo Kogaku Kikai Kabushikikaisha). The company was formed from the surveying instrument division of K. Hattori & Co., now part of Seiko Holdings, to manufacture optical instruments domestically in Japan.
